Frequently Asked Questions

Where do parents go for the Sunday banquet?

If you purchased tickets to the parent’s program and banquet, the program will begin at 11:30 am on May 31st. Please come to the Reiland Fine Arts Center on the University of Jamestown Campus. After a short presentation about what your student has learned and experienced over the weekend, you will join your student for our banquet meal.

When and where will the 2020 North Dakota Leadership Seminar be held?

The 2020 seminar is set for May 29-May 31 at the University of Jamestown.

Who is eligible to participate?

High school sophomores in North Dakota are eligible and are encouraged to apply to represent their school.

Who pays for the Seminar?

All costs, except travel expenses, are paid for by many sponsors throughout North Dakota. We are able to provide NDLS free of charge to every student because of the generous contributions we receive from North Dakota businesses, foundations, individuals, and service organizations who believe in the value of youth leadership development.

What kind of program is planned?

During the Leadership Seminar, many dynamic leaders – all volunteers from the fields of business, education, and government – will address numerous aspects of our changing world and the challenges future leaders will confront.

The program will not promote any specific political party, business, religion, or way of thinking; but it is designed to develop an awareness of issues by actively involving seminar participants in discussions and informal debate. The student leaders will have the opportunity to ask questions of the discussion leaders throughout the weekend, which leads to a better understanding of topics presented.

The parents of each student leader are invited to the closing banquet and program on Sunday. Parents and family members are encouraged to attend this program that highlights the students’ experiences at NDLS.

Where do students stay?

At the University of Jamestown, students will stay at the dorms on campus. NDLS staff members will also be staying in the same buildings.
